How to use Steam Offline?

Using a Steam Offline account is a method that allows you to access licensed games at a lower cost while still ensuring a stable experience if the process is followed correctly. The content below provides a detailed step-by-step guide on how to use a Steam Offline account, from logging in and switching modes to running the game properly. By strictly following the instructions, you can play licensed games in offline mode in a simple way and minimize potential risks.

How to Enable Offline Mode

Step 1: In the Steam application interface, left-click on “Steam” (top-left corner) > then select “Go Offline…” to complete the process.

Note: When using Steam Offline, you still need to stay in Online mode to download and install the game as usual. After the download is complete, you must switch Steam to Offline Mode and disconnect your internet connection before starting the game.

Step 2: Once Offline Mode is successfully enabled, the label “OFFLINE MODE” will appear on the Steam application.

If you want to switch to another account to play a different game on Steam, choose Change Account. Do not select Log Out, as this may interrupt the configuration, cause errors, and create inconvenience if the account requires a verification code upon logging in again.

How to Disable Steam Cloud

Step 1: Open the Steam application on your PC > Click “Steam” (top-left corner) > Select “Settings.”

Step 2: In Steam Settings, select “Cloud” (1) > Find “Enable Steam Cloud” and toggle the switch (2) to gray (turn it off) to complete the process.

If the system requests a Steam Family PIN, you may skip this step. There is no need to disable or change settings if it does not directly affect downloading or playing the game.

To avoid affecting game progress (save files), it is recommended to proactively disable Steam Cloud and save data directly on your computer for better stability. Although Steam Cloud usually does not function in Offline Mode, it is still advisable to disable it manually to minimize the risk of data conflicts or lost save files.

2. Fix error: “Error. Something went wrong while attempting…”

This error usually occurs when you are using a VPN (commonly 1.1.1.1) to access Steam. Try turning the VPN off or on and log in again. Sometimes disabling the VPN resolves the issue, while other times enabling it may fix the error. Try toggling it until the issue is resolved.

Note: For Steam game accounts that do not integrate protection systems such as Denuvo, Offline Mode usage is generally stable with minimal errors. Issues typically occur only during login or when switching between Online and Offline modes.
If you are unable to log in or get stuck in Offline Mode due to ISP connection restrictions, the cause is usually related to Steam server access. In this case, adjusting or changing your VPN should restore normal connectivity.
